Ballooning Over the Atacama

Whilst astronomers congregate in the desert’s impressive Alma Observatory to study the stars in some of the clearest skies in the world, and scientists test Mars exploration rovers in this corner of the earth that most resembles the Red Planet, visitors can now view this remote land with extraterrestrial perspective by way of hot air balloon.

Drawing on years of experience ballooning over the temples of Bagan in Myanmar, the company who introduced ‘Balloons over Bagan’ have sought the best environment to start a new venture and they have launched in the Valley of the Moon.

Watch the sunrise from what feels like the top of the world.  Float above this natural reserve in the Cordillera del Sal with breathtaking views of otherworldly saline outcrops that look like sculptures, vast canyons, craggy peaks and rippled gypsum and clay formations. Dried out lakes have left white frostings of salt, whilst layered barren rock and snowcapped volcanic ranges are majestic, abrasive and enigmatic in their years of existence. You can then soak up the scenery with a champagne breakfast waiting for you at the end of your flight.
